Steve Carlton

Starting Pitcher

inducted in 1996

A charter member of the Hall, Steve Carlton has the stats to back it up.  His 214-148 record and 2,506 strikeouts were IAL career records until recently.  Steve’s 39 shutouts are second only to Greg Maddux.  Lefty won 24 games in three different seasons, his best year coming in 1982 when he posted a 24-9 record, a 1.69 ERA, allowing only 154 hits in 288 innings, striking out 266 batters.  During Carlton’s 13 years with the Cardinals, the only team he ever pitched for, he completed 167 of his 438 starts.
